Special Activities

Service Learning

The practical application of the Christian faith is fun and exciting for students. To help train and set a pattern for life, our room will be involved in outreach projects throughout the year.

All students will purchase and learn to play the ukelele as it is used in many of our activities. Some planned activities are:

  • Visit with cards and cookies to 4 local senior centers.
  • Visit the US Veterans Home with cards and gifts on Veteran’s Day.
  • Provide a Christmas meal and gifts for a family.
  • Three additional off-campus activities with our ukelele group.
  • Provide a Sabbath School program at the Redlands SDA Church and the Japanese Church.
  • Place flags on the graves of veterans for Memorial Day.

Historical & Cultural Activities

  • On “Back to School” night, increase our understanding of the cultural backgrounds of our class.
  • Conduct a cultural potluck at school with dishes the students have prepared reflecting their background.
  • Visit to Chinatown, Japantown, and Pueblo Los Angeles.
  • Visit to Calico Ghost Town and the Twenty Mule Team Borax Mine.

Field Trips

  • A visit to the children’s forest and Keller Peak fire lookout.
  • A visit to a local planetarium.
  • Redlands Fire Department visit to our campus.
  • Open house at March AFB.
  • Sabbath rock hounding outing.
  • A two day field trip (camping overnight) to the Living Desert. Activities will include a desert covered wagon trip, Coalinga Oasis hike, visit to a date farm, and a visit to a citrus packing plant.

At School Activities

  • Science – Plant a small garden, apply the scientific method to 5 experiments, start a rock & mineral collection, construct a wind chime.
  • Social Studies/Language/Computers – Learn how to go online and do research, lean basic keyboarding without looking at fingers, construct a social studies diorama, construct a log cabin.
  • Reading – write book reports, keep a weekly reading log, participate in the annual RAA Read-A-Thon.
